The International Day for the Eliminating of  Violence Against Women, followed by 16 days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence is a moment to reflect on, renew, amplify and strategize to achieve commitments to eliminate violence against women.
Women too have rights just as everyone other. Such of the rights include the right to live free from violence and discrimination, to be educated, to enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, to own property and to earn a wage. But across the globe, many women and girls face a lot of discrimination on the basis of sex and gender.

Violence against women is a global pandemic that affects women and girls of all ages, background and socioeconomic status. Women face different forms of violence such as physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence and economic violence.
All these forms of violence have consequences to them. Women who experience violence face a multitude of physical, mental and emotional health problems. Physical injuries, chronic pain and reproductive health issues are also common. They also experience Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety and other mental health problems. These health problems have significant impact on their quality of life, limiting their ability to work, maintain relationship and participate in daily activities.
Violence against women extends beyond the individual, affecting families and communities as a whole. Children who experience violence are always at an increased risk of developing emotional, behavioral and developmental problems.
In our societies, norms and expectations have restricted women which creates barriers in their life.

Ending violnce against women requires a multi-pronged approach that addresses the root causes of violence and provides support for  survivors.
Addressing violence against women requires a comprehensive approach that encompasses of prevention, protection and empowerment.
By preventing violence against women we need to educate and empower young individuals, particularly young people about healthy relationship, gender equality and respect for women. Also we need to challenge harmful gender stereotypes and norms that promote violence against women.
By protection them against violence, we need to strengthen law and policies to protect women and ensure that perpetrators are held account able for their crimes. Also we need to provide adequate resources to survivors such as health care, legal aid and counselling services.
When it comes to empowerment, women should be provided with economic opportunities to reduce their dependence on their abusive partners. We can promote women's participation in decision making-processes at all levels in the society.

To sum up all, eradicating violence against women demands collective efforts from individuals, communities, governments and international organizations. Violence against women is a serious problem with far-reaching consequences.  It is important to raise awareness on this issue and to prevent and address on it.
Let's work together to create a world where all women and girls are free from all forms of violence.
"UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls."
